London-based hotelier Radisson Edwardian adds QR codes to restaurant menus of all its 11 hotels. The codes contain additional information with extra video content.
QR codes become more and more popular worldwide as smartphones can scan them and decrypt information from the codes. With the help of QR codes visitors of the restaurants by Radisson Edwardian can get links to an online video that is hosted on the hotel’s website. The video features “dish of the month”, ingredients used, the process of preparation and other tips and advices from the restaurant’s chief.
Amy Clarke, e-commerce manager of Radisson Edwardian, says QR codes can expand the profiles of hotels’ restaurants as they add very important information. Now a guest can look at the dish he/she is about to order and then make a final decision.
Radisson Edwardian is not the only hotelier that has decided to include QR codes. Dusit International, a Bangkok-based hotelier, uses them from September 2010. The codes are included in all marketing materials of the company. As not everyone is yet familiar with the codes, the company adds small descriptions under them. According to the representatives of the hotelier, currently more people in Europe, the UK and Asia Pacific use QR codes to get additional information in a fast and convenient way.
