Marriott International is going to debut on the territory of the UK with its Residence Inn brand. The first property will become the 107-key Residence Inn hotel in Edinburgh. Marriott will manage this property according to the agreement with the hotel’s owner Gladedale Ventures Ltd.
The hotel is scheduled to greet its first guests in October 2011. After the opening this is going to be the second Residence Inn hotel in Europe. The first property is expected to be opened a month earlier, and this is going to be Residence Inn Orleanstrasse hotel in Munich.
Residence Inn Edinburgh will be opened in the mixed-use center named Quartermile. The development is called this way because if its location – the complex is just a quarter-mile away from the famous Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile. Besides the hotel this complex will feature 900 upscale apartments, around 30,000 sq. m. of space devoted to offices and around 10,000 sq. m. of space for retail shops.
Residence Inn brand is targeted to travellers who need an extended stay accommodation. Currently the brand is the global leader in this segment with over 600 properties located in Costa Rica, Canada, and the United States. Residence Inn is also the third largest brand by Marriott. Accommodations under this flag feature spacious rooms that have separated sleeping and living areas, a kitchen, a grocery delivering service, complimentary hot breakfast, and a 24-hour market.
The opening of new hotels in the UK falls under the global strategy of Marriott of doubling the company’s portfolio in this country by 2015.
