The United Arab Emirates have 2 main tourist centers that are internationally famous – Abu Dhabi and Dubai. While Dubai is still considered #1 and this is proven by major hotel metrics, hotels in Abu Dhabi shorten the distance.
In the end of the year Abu Dhabi accommodations show an increase of 42% in guest nights. Over 1.6 million of people visited hotels in Abu Dhabi during 11 months of 2010. Experts foresee this number to grow to 1.65 million by the end of the year.
Occupancy levels of hotels in the UAE also show a positive tendency and have an increase of 18% up to 77%. The longevity of one stay has also increased from 2.9 nights per one person to 3.2. All these figures showed a positive impact on monthly revenues of hotels in Abu Dhabi, which estimated US $139.4 according to the report of Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority.
Even though the figures of the hotels in Dubai are far more impressive, the city’s accommodations show a slower growth. During January-September 2010 the city has been visited by 5.99 million of tourists. This is just a 6% more than in the same period of 2009. The occupancy level for this year is almost the same as in the previous one, even though in 2010 new hotels were opened, increasing the hotel inventory to 16%.
Sure, it’s too early to talk about Abu Dhabi overcoming Dubai, but within several years this competition is going to turn into a severe battle.
