The president of the Swiss Hotel Association, Guglielmo Brentel, shared his predictions for the development of hotel business in Switzerland. According to him, more than a thousand hotels in Switzerland will not survive the next ten years.
"Nowadays it is no longer enough to build a hotel, where you can just sleep, eat and drink. There are many other reasons why people travel, and hotel owners have to offer visitors a variety of services", - says Brentel, who himself owns a medium-sized hotel.
He also underlined that of Switzerland’s 5,500 hotels, 40 per cent account for 80 per cent of overnights. The remaining 60% are fighting for 20% of the total tourist flow. Brentel believes that half of these hotels, that is a third of all Swiss hotels, will not survive and will close shortly.
Small "family" hotels, which are unable to deploy a successful advertising campaign or reduce the prices to entice guests, will be the first to suffer. The only path to survival for these hotels is to provide a unique service and give a special experience to their guests.
