Mzimta river, which is located in the Krasnodar region, not far from Sochi, is one of the permanent places for rafting competitions in Russia. The uniqueness of this river is that it is ideal for beginners as well as for experienced athletes. The name of the river is translated by Uzbek as 'crazy water', which completely reflects the peculiarity of Mzimta.
The course of the river is divided into three sections, each of which has its own complexity level. On these routes, the river is divided by three beautiful gorges: Greek Gorge, Ah-Tsu and Ahschtyrsk Gorge. One of the most complicated stretches of the river is the high Ah-Tsu waterfall. Behind the ravine of the same name is the incredibly quiet and beautiful course, where beginners can master the beginnings of rafting. The above-mentioned waterfall has the sixth, highest complexity level, which is quite rare for the Russian rivers.
Like many other mountain streams of the Krasnodar region, Mzimta is characterized by the rather low water temperature. This special feature is a must for beginners and those who have become accustomed to the river hikes on the warm tropical rivers. The beginners can be recommended to go to the river mouth. The water here is quite quiet, so you can drive even with the catamarans comfortably.
