Among them a special place is made up of monuments of sacred architectural art. A small part of the religious monuments worth visiting include; Haseki Hürrem Sultan Mosque, built in the middle of the 16th century according to the project of Mimar Sinan, or the Topkapi Sultan’s Palace, which was the main palace of the Ottoman Empire right until the middle of the 19th century (the time of its construction dates back to the middle of the 15th century),and also the Mihrimah Sultan Mosque, for the fact that a part of it is located in the western (European) part of the city, and the other is in the Asiatic part (it was built in the middle of the 16th century). By the way, many of them were places of filming Turkish historical films and serials, the most famous of which is “The Magnificent Century”.
Basilica Cistern, or Yerebatan Sarnıcı, is probably one of the most amazing places in Turkey’s largest city. It became famous among the general public thanks to the movie “Inferno”. However, it is worth noting that this is one of the most interesting buildings for the exploration of the culture and history of Istanbul. The mystical atmosphere so typical of the place is simply mesmerizing – it is the dim light, the head of the Gorgon Medusa, the water illuminated by red lights, and numerous columns that contribute a lot to this effect. There is a beautiful legend connected with the place, which is still a big mystery.
