Gimpo International Airport (formerly known as Kimpo or Kimpho) is located 15 km west of the centre of Seoul. The name of the airport originates from the name of the city, in the territory of which it is situated. The facility was being constructed between 1939 and 1942. The airport served as a United States Air Force base during the Korean War. It was the main international airport not only of Seoul, but also of South Korea until 2001. Nowadays the airport services about 24 million passengers a year. The airport has 2 runways, 2 passenger terminals and a cargo one at its disposal. Future expansion plans include the construction of two new terminals.

The airport is connected with Seoul by 2 underground lines (number 5 and 9), and the international express line AREX. You may leave the airport by shuttle buses, taxis, or you may also order a transfer.

You can rent a car at Gimpo International Airport by using the car rental service, found on the official website of the airport, or by contacting the selected vehicle hire agency directly through the websites of the agencies where their contact details are given. The following agencies operate at the airport: LOTTE Rent-A-Car, Pacific Rent-A-Car, and AJ Rent-A-Car. Such international companies as Sixt and Avis are represented at Gimpo International Airport. Their information desks can be found in the arrival halls of the terminals.

Most of the standard car rental rules apply to these companies. These rules include age restriction (not younger than 21 years of age); confirmation of driving experience not less than a year; the presence of national and international driver's license without offence entries; the presence of an identity card with a photo; the presence of a credit card with an amount of funds sufficient for the retention from the deposit, held in the name of the principal driver (there is a charge for using a credit card). Furthermore, supplementary services and accessories are paid separately. Note that their cost may vary. Additional car equipment is subject to availability. If a preliminary reservation has been made, the client must provide a printed voucher.

The airport encompasses 4 parking lots (which include short-term and long-stay ones), with the total number of car spaces standing at around 6,000. The cost of parking places varies depending on a certain parking structure and a day of week. Deluxe parking is available in both the Airside Terminal and the Landside Terminal.
