Oldenburg is one of the oldest German cities that received its name in honor of a noble family. The challenging history of the city and its close proximity to Holland made local culture and traditions special, which will make any vacation even more interesting. For hundreds of years, Oldenburg has been one of the largest horse-breeding centers in Europe. Several farms breeding elite horses are still open on the outskirts of the city. Many of them are currently available for every tourist. They attract not only curious travelers but also locals with small children. Such farms are one of their favorite family leisure spots. On farms, everyone can learn how to care for animals, as well as ride a horse through the picturesque surroundings of the city.
The townspeople are also known for their love for nature. Almost half of the city is covered by green parks and gardens. For local residents, keeping a home garden green and good-looking is considered a matter of honor, therefore, picturesque squares and gardens are found literally at every step here. The maintenance of cleanliness and order in the streets is closely monitored, and any violations are punishable by heavy fines. In recent years, Oldenburg has become a permanent venue for many interesting international festivals and celebrations, which invariably attract a large number of guests.
Every year, the Weser-Ems-Halle hosts a flower exhibition in which representatives from various countries take part. At this exhibition, florists and gardeners present their best achievements. Visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity to buy beautiful flowers for their domestic gardens. The exhibition center is very large and can accommodate up to 50,000 people at a time. Apart from exhibitions and flower fairs, it holds meetings with eminent flower growers, as well as other thematic programs.
