One of the most magnificent monuments in the baroque style is the Castle Solitude built for Charles Eugene, Duke of Württemberg. The castle had been in private ownership until the 18th century and then served as a military school. This school became world-famous due to the fact that Friedrich von Schiller graduated from it. Since the 20th century, the castle has been serving as an art academy.
As for monuments of the early Middle Ages, the Minster built at the turn of the 10th-11th century is worth being mentioned. The temple is distinguished by quite a strict design. Noble dukes had been buried here for many years. Now, the old church attracts with its unique medieval decorative elements, including frescoes created in the 13th century. This old building is the main Lutheran church in the city. After the reconstruction, it has had a lot of Gothic features.
The most unusual cultural venue in Stuttgart is the Schweine (Pig) Museum. For German people, pigs are some of the most respected symbols that bring good luck. The museum occupies the spectacular historical building. Its main collection includes figures of pigs of different materials. In total, the museum collection contains over 40 000 exhibits.
