For those who want to take a longer walk through the picturesque places, the Pfalzerwald Reserve is available. On its territory is the largest forest in Germany, the total area of the reserve is about 180,000 hectares. On the territory of the park there are many routes, here travelers can admire the beautiful lakes and rivers, and also see rare species of trees and plants. There are many wild inhabitants in the local forests, and several unique historic buildings have survived in the forest. A curious historical site is the ruins of Wilenstein-Florsheim. They got their name from the names of two ancient castles, which were built here in the 12th century. The beautiful castles were completely destroyed in the first half of the 17th century, and in the middle of the 20th century they were partially restored. Among the outstanding architectural monuments of the city, which managed to survive the war years, it is worth noting the St. Mary’s Church. Its construction began in 1887 and continued for five years. The beautiful church was built on donations from the townspeople. The church impresses with its remarkable scale, and is directed upward by 92 meters. Up to 5,000 people can be accommodated within its walls at a time.
