The majority of important excursion sites are located in the central region of the city. For many centuries Palais des Etats and the Palais des Ducs has remained the main symbol of Dijon. The beautiful building is surrounded by thick fortification walls that were built back in the 12th century. The construction of the beautiful palace lasted more than four centuries. During the Middle Ages the palace witnessed many important historical events. Today a part of the palace has been converted into Museum of Art, but the decoration of halls has remained almost intact.
When it comes to describing cultural attractions of the city, we simply cannot fail to mention the Palace of Congresses and Exhibitions. The palace constantly hosts a lot of interesting events. This is also the location of a gastronomic fair, as well as various antique exhibitions and auctions. Museum of Archaeology is one of the most interesting cultural institutions of the city. Among its exhibits visitors will see precious Celtic jewelry and religious artifacts, household objects and numerous ritual artifacts found in the territory of the region. The building which houses the museum was a Benedictine abbey in the early Middle Ages. Therefore, this is also a very important historical object.
