The University of British Columbia impresses from the very first minutes, with its interesting architecture. This majestic building was built in 1908 and houses one of the most prestigious universities of Canada – a fact that becomes clear when your gaze falls upon the university building. There is another amazing building, which from an architectural viewpoint was constructed in the form of residential buildings. It was once upon a time occupied by a hotel. We are here, referring to none other than the famous Hotel Europe. This building was erected in the same year as the University of British Columbia, but with regards to style, it is completely different from it. This masterpiece of architecture was built by the architects from the company Parr and Fee. It is also noteworthy in the sense that several episodes of the film “Legends of the fall” were shot here.
Very interesting sculptures can be found while walking along the already mentioned Stanley Park. It is a must that you find the Brockton Point Totem Pole; they are almost on the way out of the park and are very funny Indian totems. Completely unexpected views open up on Johnston Street – there are painted concrete bunkers here. It looks very funny and perfectly cheers up both the locals, who often see the constructions, as well as the newly arrived tourists. Another interesting and unusual sight in Vancouver was built on the occasion of the Olympic Games in 2010. We are talking about the Olympic Cauldron. There are several other interesting sculptures on the territory of Vancouver, the most interesting among them being “A-maze-ing Laughter” and “Angel of Victory”.
