Picturesque architectural buildings, plenty of unique monuments and museums - the choice of interesting places to visit in Florianopolis is really huge. One of the most colorful and interesting places in the city is the City Market ( Mercado Publico ). In addition to the variety of products presented here, it is distinguished by its lively atmosphere. Many people come here in search of memorable souvenirs, while others are attracted by national restaurants and cafes located in the market.
After walking through the shopping arcades, be sure to explore the nearby Custom House ( Pradio da Alfandega ). It was built in 1875 and is a vivid example of the neoclassical style. Currently, the beautiful architectural monument houses an art gallery. Part of the building is occupied by an interesting souvenir shop where you can buy unique ceramics made by local craftsmen.
One of the city's most visited cultural facilities is the Santa Catarina History Museum ( Museu Histyrico de Santa Catarina ), whose exposition is devoted to the process of settling the island by European immigrants. The beautiful Cruz e Sousa Palace ( Palacio Cruz e Sousa ) currently housing the museum was built in 1770 and is believed to be one of the most spectacular architectural monuments of the city. The building was converted into a museum only in 1984. Prior to this, the palace belonged to the state government.
