7. In Belarus, there are very strict rules regarding the use of alcohol. For drivers, the maximum allowed blood alcohol content is 0.3 ppm. Higher content will result in a large fine and driving license suspension for up to three years.
8. Lower beams must necessarily be used in the dark as well as during the daytime in poor visibility conditions. If the weather is good, lower beams can be used by drivers by their discretion. It is also worth noting that during the daytime it is allowed to use fog lights.
9. Children under 12 years can be transported in a car only in a special child seat that corresponds with height and weight of the child. An adult passenger can hold one child in his/her arms, but in this case the passenger must sit in the back seat and must have seat belts fastened.
10. If the vehicle is moving, all passengers in it and the driver must fasten seat belts. The driver is allowed to talk on a cell phone only if it is equipped with a headset.
11. Fines in Belarus are measured in base values. The current amount of the base value is 100 000 rubles. Local police are authorized to charge fines right on the spot. The violator doesn’t have to make an immediate payment as all fines can also be paid off in bank. However, it's worth noting that in some cases the failure to pay the fine on the spot may result in confiscation of the driving license. The document will be returned once the fine amount is paid.
