Chiang Mai is translated as the 'Rose of the North'. It received its name due to plethora of flowers that grow in its favorable climate. The nature around the city is extremely beautiful. The city is not too busy but it contains all the necessary services and facilities of a usual city. Lots of people from the West made their choice to settle in Chiang Mai that brought good both to the westerns and to the local residents of the city.
Not only nature around city and a number of restaurants and entertainments are worth attention but also people themselves with all the crafts they are busy with, for example, silk, silver and wood works.
The best thing about Chiang Mai for tourists is that they needn't waste time looking for interesting places and architectural wonders as all these is almost at hand, one just needs to go outside the city. Some of such places of interest are: Chiang Dao, Pai, Soppong, Mae Salong, Mae Hong Song, Chiang Saen and Mae Chaem.
