National parks and reserves are the main wealth of Tanzania. Natural treasures made a country popular among tourists from all over the world. One of the most amazing parks is the Serengeti Park. It is known primarily for its amazingly rich flora and fauna. About 1.5 million wildebeest, 3 thousand lions, hundreds of thousands of zebras, as well as giraffes, elephants, buffaloes, rhinoceroses, leopards, cheetahs, and hyenas live there. The Ngorongoro Tropical Park is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The park is located in the crater of an extinct volcano; its total area is about 265 square kilometers. The depth of the crater is about 600 meters, which is why many animals that live in the park, never leave it. The flora of the park is represented by bush vegetation. It is possible to admire beautiful acacia forests there. The fauna is incredibly rich. The pink flamingos live in Magadi Lake; black rhinoceroses, elephants, and hippos can be seen too. Not far from the crater, there is the Olduvai gorge, where the remains of the Olduvai culture were discovered. That craft was created about 1 million years ago.
The Ruaha National Park is the second largest in Tanzania. It was named after the river Ruaha, where lots of crocodiles live. Herds of antelopes and zebras, and a large number of birds flock to the banks of the river. The birds are the most numerous inhabitants of the park. The reserve features hornbills, egrets, plovers, kingfishers, and about 500 other species. As for other animals, you can find giraffes, elephants, hippos, deer, lions, leopards, hyenas, porcupines, and wild cats. The park is very popular among fans of safari. During the rainy season lasting from January to April, tourists come here to observe a migration of birds and the wealth of colors of African flowers. Tanzania can boast with the highest peak in Africa. That’s Kilimanjaro, which is the potentially active volcano. In Swahili, its name means 'a mountain that sparkles.' The peak rises above the African plains, and the snow covering it shines in the hot sun. According to legends, local soldiers took snow on top of the mountain for silver and even tried to mine it during ancient times. Today, the eternal glaciers on Kilimanjaro are rapidly melting. The mountain is surrounded by the national park, which was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. There are mountain forests, where you can meet many wild animals, including lions, zebras, giraffes, baboons, and antelopes. National parks of Mikumi, Mkomazi, Katavi, and Arusha can be visited in Tanzania too.
Tanzanian lakes deserve a special attention. Tanganyika is one of the largest natural reservoirs with fresh water. A large number of freshwater fish live there. Small ones often become objects of breeding in private aquariums around the world. Lake Victoria is called a great sea by the locals because of its size and depth. Picturesque views of the lake resemble the Seychelle. Numerous islands have large bird colonies. Elephants, giraffes, and chimpanzees are found off the coast. The national park is organized on the island of Roubando. You can visit it only with a special permit. Tourists can only walk there by foot. Lake Nyasa is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List because of the richest flora and fauna. Incredibly picturesque views open from the coast.
