Due to the trade winds blowing to the Antilles from the Atlantic side, there is a lot of precipitation in the north-eastern regions of the country; about 1,000 millimeters per year. In the west of the country however, it does not shower as frequently with the average annual figures not exceeding more than 300 millimeters. The humidity in the Antilles nonetheless, is high.
