Milos is known to the whole world as a place of discovery of the famous statue of Venus de Milo, which now is in the Louvre. This is a calm and rather uncrowded island with a rich history and almost untouched nature. The inquisitive, open and active children will like it here. There are no “civilized” entertainments for children in the form of attractions and water parks on the island. But there are many options for an active pastime and a large number of attractions.

For example, you can go along with a child on a boat around the coastline of Milos or to some neighboring island from the Cyclades archipelago. Isn’t it an adventure? Especially since on Milos there is an opportunity to get to the secluded bays, inaccessible from land, by sea and feel like a real Robinson. Here you can also watch the underwater inhabitants. Younger children and those who do not want to deal with diving equipment can try snorkeling, and older children may well try themselves in the role of a diver.

You can walk a lot on Milos. Relatively small distances between the settlements will allow you to move between the close villages on feet with a child, enjoying nature. You can take your child to the local caves of great beauty – Papafranga, Sykia, and Kleftiko. There are many beaches on the island, and you can swim on any of them. Particularly prominent is Sarakiniko, surrounded by many rocks, bleached by wind and time. Hivadolimni, Agia Kyriaki, Pollonia, Adamantas, Paliochori – you can visit each of them with a child or opt for one of them. Take your child for a walk around the main port of the island, Adamas. Snow-white houses, cobbled streets, immersed in flowers – it seems that this place is more fabulous than real, and kids will certainly appreciate it. Young naturalists will enjoy the local metal museum, which tells a lot about the mineral resources of the island. The capital of the island, Plaka, can be reached either on foot, by bicycle or by motor scooter – the road to the settlement is too narrow for cars.

In Plaka, it is worthwhile to take the child to the Archaeological Museum. In addition to a rich collection of finds of the ancient period, there you can find a plaster copy of the famous Aphrodite, which was taken to France back in the 19th century. Here, in Plaka, you can visit the Ethnographic Museum with your child. Small kids will be curious to look at unusual things, and the older children will certainly be interested in the life and lifestyle of the inhabitants of the island in past centuries. It is worth exploring the castle of the 13th-century crusaders – the children will be delighted with it. If your child is interested in art or architecture of past years, then you should take him to the churches in Plaka – Panagia Korfiatissa, Panagia Thalassitra or Mesa Panagia.

Not far from Plaka, between the villages of Tripiti and Klima, there are the ruins of the ancient city of Melos. You should come here to see the ruins of the once powerful settlement, and to show the work of historians and archaeologists to the child. The ruins of the city walls, fragments of the temple, and the Roman theater will interest any child. With older children it is worth going to the early Christian catacombs. According to the historians, the necropolis accommodates around 2,000 graves and is one of the largest among the surviving buildings of this type in all of Greece.
