Travel Guide to Manila, Philippines

Manila is a city located on the Luzon Island. This is one of the most dynamic and modern cities in the south-east Asia. Manila has a very good infrastructure and is known as a conglomerate consisting of seven major cities - Manila, Pasay City, Quezon City, Pasay City, Mandaluyong, Kalookan, Makati and Pasig.
Originally one could see the Sanyago fort right at the entrance of the city. In XVI century there was located a bamboo fortress, and the Manila Cathedral was built right in front of it. Sadly, only church of St. Augustine and the museum have survived after the period of war. However, the main historical sight of Manila is its main street named Calle Real.
Intramuros is the heart of Manila. This is a wall, which has protected the first Spanish settlement from a variety of attacks. The wall stands even nowadays. The church of St. Augustine and the restored fort are the great examples of the colonial architecture. Manila museum exhibits works of the ancient church art and other artifacts that represent the culture of Philippines. A huge complex of buildings named Plaza San Luis is the location of galleries of ancient art, Cash Manila Museum, and various cafes and restaurants.
Ermita district is the most popular area in Manila as it is located near the magnificent Manila Bay and Rizal Park.
