Jolly Beach is a resort town on Antigua Island that never ceases to conquer hearts of its numerous guests. Besides learning the history of the fort and the island in general, visitors can also admire striking views of the seaside. Fort James is one more defensive fortification that deserves a visit. It was built by the British in 1739 in order to protect the island from the French. Nowadays, only several cannons and fragments of the walls have remained from the fort. When describing religious landmarks of the island, it is important to mention the Cathedral of St. John the Divine that is open in St. John’s. However, it was rebuilt, and now visitors can admire the gorgeous building in its full glory. Holy Family Cathedral is one more interesting religious landmark of the island. It is also interesting to visit St. John’s in order to attend Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. It has a large cricket field, and the stadium can provide space for up to 10,000 spectators. Sir Vivian Richards Stadium was built in 2008. Many tourists try to buy tickets to cricket games that take place during their vacation as this is one of the most popular and loved sports on Antigua. Originally brought by the British, it has become a true “calling card” of the island. Needless to say, locals are big fans of cricket. Shirley Heights offers some of the most spectacular views on Antigua. Besides that, this observation deck is a true calling card of the island. It is located on the other side, in English Harbour. There is one more interesting natural landmark, which is called Monk's Hill. This hill offers a breath-taking view of the harbor and ruins of the old fort that are located in Falmouth. Dow's Hill Interpretation Centre is one more interesting place in English Harbour. This center offers a very unusual way to get acquainted with the history of the island. All exhibits are located in one room, and a visitor sits on a chair that turns clockwise. There is also a souvenir shop where it is possible to purchase many interesting items and souvenirs produced by local artisans. Finally, don’t forget to visit Fort Berkeley. This is one more notable historic landmark of the island. Moreover, it is a great place to see a view of another interesting landmark of the island - Nelson's Dockyard Marina, a stroll on which will leave many unforgettable memories.
