National cuisine of Ireland for gourmets. Authentic recipes, delicacies and specialties

The cuisine of Ireland can’t be called sophisticated and refined. Local chefs pay the most attention to the satiety of dishes. Meat and seafood dishes are very popular in the country. The most common vegetable is potato; that’s the most popular side dish to many meat treats. Initially potato was considered a food for the poor. However, it quickly entered the menu of most Irish houses and deserved the right to become one of the symbols of the national cuisine. A variety of soups, pies and sweet pastries is typical for Ireland. Butter is another national product; it is of high quality and unique taste. Pike, mussel, perch, cod, and eel are the most popular seafood. The classic alcoholic beverage of Ireland is dark Guinness beer.

The Irish breakfast is a standard set of products that locals traditionally eat in the morning. The set is quite high in calories, which allows the Irish to gain strength and recharge for the whole day. It includes scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, vegetable garnish like beans or tomatoes, blood sausage, and bread. Historically, only wealthy landlords could afford such a breakfast. However, over time, it became available to all. Modern hotels in Ireland serve such a hearty breakfast as a lunch or dinner. One of the most recognizable dishes of Irish cuisine is the Irish stew, which is a stewed lamb with carrots and onions. The dish is very popular in the country. Its recipe has not changed much after many years.
Another recognizable Irish dish is boxty, which is a potato cake. There are two ways of cooking it - in a saucepan or in a frying pan. A boxty, cooked in a saucepan, resembles a pizza or a large pancake. It can be served for breakfast. Boxty in a frying pan is mostly made for Halloween. The former is a small flat cake served with fried sausages or bacon. White and black sausage pudding share a wonderful and memorable taste, which is, reminiscent of a meat paste. Black pudding gets its unique color due to a sheep blood, which is added when cooking the dish. Another traditional Irish treat is bacon with cabbage. It owes its unique taste to a sauce cooked with butter, flour, and milk with the addition of spices. Copyright www.orangesmile.com

A dish is complemented with soda bread. Another option of bread, which is very popular in the country, is Barmbrack. It is made of a sweet yeast dough with the addition of raisins and grapes. This bread is a little sweeter than usual, but not as much as muffins or pies are. It is customary to put several surprises inside; these include peas, a piece of cloth, a coin, or a ring. Each item has its own significance. Traditional Irish dessert is goody pudding, which is cooked of stale bread. The latter is fried without oil until a crust appears. Then, bread is poured with milk, and spices and sugar are added. The dish is baked in the oven and served with chocolate, ice cream or whipped cream.
Galway Except beer, it is necessary to try the Irish creamy liqueur - Baileys. It is based on Irish whiskey and cream and has a recognizable taste. Irish coffee is also made with cream and whiskey. Another popular alcoholic drink, Poitin, is very high-proof. It can contain from 40% to 90% alcohol. Another local alcoholic beverage is Irish Mist liqueur. It enjoys great popularity all over the world along with Beilis. The former is based on two kinds of honey and extracts of herbs. Ireland can boast a wide selection of cheeses. Guests of the country can taste unique local blue cheese, as well as Blarney Castle, coolea, and melleen.
