One-of-a-kind Vacation: Unique Historic Hotels in the UK

News The United Kingdom is a diverse country that has much to offer to travelers. If you have always wanted to try traditional British pastimes such as long and unhurried walks and chilling at local pubs, whiskey tasting in Scotland, and cream tea time in Cornwall, there are many luxury hotels across the country that are perfectly suitable for this.

Let’s start with Cliveden House hotel in Berkshire. In the past, this house belonged to the Astor family, and today this is one of the most prestigious hotels in the UK. Many rich and famous people stayed at Cliveden and enjoyed its secluded location in a 370-acre-large National trust-owned park. This place is a piece of the iconic English countryside cherished in numerous books and films. It is better to access the hotel from Gatwick Airport. Cliveden has a private helipad.

Known as the home of the cream tea, Cornwall has many fine hotels and the Idle Rocks is definitely one of them. This luxury coastal hotel initially opened in the 30s of the previous century. It changed owners in 2010 and reopened three years later after an extensive refurbishment. The posh Cornwall hotel has only 19 guest rooms. Made in the cozy Cornish design, bedrooms offer striking views of the sea. Don’t forget to check out the hotel’s restaurant led by famous chef Dorian Janmaat.

Well-known for its horse racing, Ascot is the location of another prominent luxury hotel – Coworth Park Hotel and Resort. By the way, this hotel has an equestrian center and offers horse riding lessons for guests but it is very interesting to visit even if horse racing is not your cup of tea. The former Georgian manor now belongs to the Brunei Investment Agency and is operated by the Dorchester Collection. The equestrian theme is reflected in the design of the property – embroidered horseshoes on bed linens, artworks, horse-related books, etc. Dining is one more advantage of this 70-room hotel. The hotel features three restaurants including the Restaurant Coworth Park led by Michelin-starred chef Adam Smith.

The last on the list, Bridgend Hotel on the Island of Islay is a charming hotel with a decent Scottish vibe. The remote island is a great destination for all whiskey lovers, foodies, and nature enthusiasts. The hotel’s restaurant has a menu that changes every day and includes many locally sourced products such as Islay Island venison and game, Loch Gruinart oysters, and veggies from the local community garden.
