The UK Expects a Record Tourism Year in 2020

News The national tourism agency in the UK, VisitBritain, has recently made its forecast regarding inbound tourism to the country in 2020. The company thinks it will be a record year for the UK’s hospitality industry. Overseas visitors’ spending is expected to grow – it will add 6.6% to £26.6 billion. The forecasted result for 2019 is £25 billion.

The number of visitors from abroad is also expected to grow next year. In 2019, the country is forecasted to greet as many as 38.5 million visits. The number of overseas visits will continue growing in 2020, adding 2.9% to 39.7 million. Overall, the tourism industry in the UK looks healthy. Not only hotels in London or Manchester enjoy high occupancy levels. Many second-tier cities and even smaller towns regularly draw the attention of foreign guests. If we look at the last decade, the progress is undeniable. The inbound tourism to the UK has added fantastic 33% between 2010 and the 2020 forecast. The total spending will grow even more for the same period – by 58%.

Nowadays, it is absolutely clear that tourism is one of the most valuable export industries in the UK. Global tourism is an incredibly competitive market, and it becomes harder to maintain positive results these days. Fortunately, the UK shows its continued ability to attract a bigger number of foreign guests year after year. The United States remains the biggest and most valuable source market for the country, but the UK tries to diversify its largest inbound markets and understands the importance of tourists from such countries as China.

What can the country offer to its guests? Besides iconic landmarks of London and other major cities, the country tries to tell customers around the world about things that are going on in the UK and experiences that people cannot find anywhere else. After that, VisitBritain tries to encourage people to make bookings.

VisitBritain prepared a number of campaigns for potential tourists around the world. One of its latest campaigns, ‘Find Your GREAT Britain, I Travel For…’ tells unknown stories about people and places. The country tries to draw the attention of European tourists as well, encouraging them to visit the UK after the Brexit. At the moment, flight bookings to the UK for the period from December 2019 to May 2020 are 5% higher than a year ago. China and South Asia have the biggest growth in bookings.
