Luxury Travelers Choose Adventure and Safari

News As the number of travelers is increasing every year, there is a definite growth in all categories, luxury travel included. According to the information published by the World Travel and Tourism Council, investment on luxury travel and tourism is increasing continuously. In 2017, it estimated US$4,233.3 billion and may reach 6,605.3 billion by 2028.

As disposable income is growing globally, people have more money to spend. As the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development mentions in its report, the number of people who belong to the middle class is growing. In 2009, there were 1.8 billion people in the world in this category. The number is expected to grow by 4.9 billion by 2030. Emerging economies are the biggest contributor to this growth. For example, disposable income in China grew from US$3,562.2 billion in 2012 to US$5,278.3 in 2017. India and the United States show a steady growth of consumer spending.

These days, social media shape the travel industry. People rely not on traditional advertisements but on the user-generated content. Travel blogs and the rise of platforms like Instagram have become very important nowadays. More and more people seek inspiration for their next vacation on social media. This contributes to the development of the travel industry and luxury travel in particular. In 2017, the global luxury travel market had the value of US$201.7 billion and is forecasted to reach the value of US$353.16 by 2026.

Currently, baby boomers are the leading force in the luxury travel market, but that is going to change soon. As millennials are entering their peak earning years (25-35), they show significant growth and are expected to shape the market in the coming years. What do these travelers seek? It turns out that adventure tourism and safari attract these groups the most. Hotels in Reykjavik, as well as Wellington hotels, have already noticed an increase in the number of guests. Luxury packages to such destinations as Cuba, Costa Rica, South Africa, Antarctica, and even the North Pole become sought after these days.

Space flights and zero gravity stations are also something that will appear among luxury travel offerings in several years. There are several companies that develop short space tourist flights, but some go even further. For example, Houston-based company Orion Span plans to build Aurora Station around 200 miles above the Earth and sell 12-day stays for roughly US$9.5 million. The station will have enough space for four tourists and two crew members.
