Cornwall and Devon Lose Their Ranks as the Best Seaside Destinations in the UK

News This month, the best and most suitable seaside destinations for staycation holidays were revealed in the UK. Surprisingly, such popular locations as Cornwall and Devon were not on the top of the list. Seaside holidays are very popular in the UK among both locals and guests of the country as it’s a comfortable and simple way to escape unnecessary costs.

Brexit has become one of the key factors to such popularity. Many hotels in the UK, especially in famous resort destinations, reported growth and a significant surge in bookings. Credit card company Marbles decided to conduct a thorough survey and reveal the place, a vacation in which can become perfect and truly unforgettable. According to the survey, Devon and Cornwall hotels, which have been common destinations for Britons, lost to Southwold, an emerging traveling center in Suffolk.

Such an unusual choice is based on a number of factors such as hotel rates, quality of beaches, entertainment available in the region, the number of restaurants and pubs, taxi fares, and much more. Southwold managed to beat such iconic destinations as Padstow and Salcombe that scored fifth and ninth respectively. Besides amazing hotels in Southwold, the spot got high ranks for the best beach, numerous attractions, and an awesome choice of restaurants.

Bamburgh in Northumberland and Woolacombe hotels in North Devon are also increasingly popular with travelers, so the spots are present in the top rank. According to staycation experts, there has been an increased demand for the northern part of the UK. The reason for that is simple – such holidays are easily accessible. More and more families prefer to make vacations to Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District rather than traveling to the south.

Therefore, only 23% of family vacation bookings in the UK were for southern England. At the same time, hotels on the north of the country enjoyed an increase of 21%. Finally, the Lake District has recently got the prestigious UNESCO heritage listing. As it’s the first place in the UK with the honorable title, hotels in the Lake District are to get more and more guests.
