Saudi Arabia has many ambitious plans regarding its hospitality industry, and the building of a 10,000-room hotel is on that list. The mega hotel, which can become the biggest hotel in the world when the construction works are finished, was abandoned since 2015. The cost of the project is hilarious more than US$3.5 billion.
The ambitious hotel project is located in Mecca. Abraj Kudai has more than 70 restaurants, numerous helipads, and several towers. The resume may mean that the Kingdom less suffers from financial problems caused by lowered oil prices, which caused consequent cost cutting. With stricter monetary policy, the government accumulated the money needed for completing key projects. However, it’s still too early to talk about the opening of the grandiose hotel as much work needs to be done. According to Reuters, it will take at least two and a half years to finish the building, but that’s in case there are no more delays and underfinancing.
The Saudi government has also not given any launch day of the hotel. It is known that once the hotel is ready, a large section will be reserved for members of the Saudi royal family. The new hotel is located in the sacred city of Mecca, a famous destination in a desert valley. It is the holiest city in the whole Muslim world. Mecca is the birthplace of the prophet Muhammad and, therefore, it’s the city where the faith itself comes from. Every year, millions of pilgrims arrive in the city and, of course, Mecca needs many hotels to cope with the growing demand.
That is the reason for building Abraj Kudai, the biggest hotel in the world. In accordance with the development plan, the hotel will consist of 12 towers and will have 10,000 guest rooms in total. The luxury hotel will have 5 helipads, 70 restaurants, and various extra services. The complex will have 45 floors and will have the total square of 15 million square feet. Naturally, such a project is extremely expensive, so it is financed by the Ministry of Finance of Saudi Arabia.
When the hotel is finished, Abraj Kudai will also become the building with one of the largest domes in the world the dome will be installed on the highest central tower. Ten towers will offer four-star accommodations, and the remaining two will have five-star rooms for exclusive guests. Five levels are reserved for the Saudi royal family. The design of interiors is currently under development by Areen Hospitality headquartered in London.
