Two famous players of Manchester United, Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville, announced partnership with Singaporean billionaire Peter Lim in order to open a series of football-themed cafes and hotels in most popular gateway cities across Asia.
Peter Lim is not a newbie in football business as he is the owner of Spanish club Valencia. The tycoon also owns Singapore-based building company Rowsley Ltd. Together with Giggs and Neville, Lim plans to open the first Café Football branded property in Asia already next year. According to the interview with Giggs, the first café will be located in Singapore, but they are looking forward to adding more cafes in the UK, Europe and Asia. The development of Hotel Football properties will be first done in Asia. The trio wants to add as many as 5,000 new guestrooms within next ten years. They are in the process of discussions with property owners in China, Thailand, India, Malaysia and the UK.
Rowsley Ltd. already operates two Café Football in the UK. The first café was opened in London in 2013, and the second café was launched in Old Trafford, home of Manchester United, in 2015. The third Café Football at the National Football Museum in Manchester will open by the end of the year.
Earlier this year Neville and Giggs announced plans for building a mixed use complex consisting of two skyscrapers and a synagogue in Manchester city centre. The complex would include a 200-guestroom hotel and would create 1,300 new jobs.
