The latest report of Statistics Netherlands reveals that hotels, restaurants and bars in the Netherlands enjoy increased sales in recent years. The sales in the hospitality industry have not only reached record years, but also outpace the average sales growth in the European Union.
The first quarter of 2016 was particularly successful for Dutch hospitality. The sales added 24% if compared to the lowest result during the financial crisis of 2009. At the same time, the turnover in the rest of the EU added only 20%.
Hospitality in the Netherlands did not show signs of fast recovery from the financial crisis. It managed to reach the pre-crisis level only in the end of 2013. Since the fourth quarter of 2013 the turnover has always been positive. The continuous growth also allowed the hospitality industry increase its share in the Dutch economy from 1.7% in 2007 to 1.8% in 2015. Naturally, such growth resulted in increased number of jobs in the industry. In 2008 the hospitality industry in the Netherlands provided jobs for 344 thousand people; in 2014 the number of jobs increased to 374 thousand.
