Hilton Worldwide announced its new ecological initiative. The internationally famous hotelier will stop using cages of egg-laying chicken and gestation crates which are used to keep and breed pigs. The changes will be applied in all Hilton hotels worldwide and the switch is to be finished in coming years. Hilton has developed the new program together with the Human Society of the United States. It is reported that all hotels that operate under such brands as Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Conrad Hotels & Resorts, DoubleTree by Hilton, Canopy by Hilton and Waldorf Astoria will change the eggs and pork they buy.
Hilton hotels will use only eggs got from cage-free chicken by the end of 2017. The process of changing the meat purchases will take a bit longer it must be finished by the end of 2018. Hotels will be permitted to buy meat only from suppliers that breed pigs in groups and don’t put them into gestation crates.
Sustainable products have become a big trend in the industry, but there is big work behind that. In order to serve their guests with best food and promote humane treatment of animals, Hilton hotels will undergo a global change of their supply chain and will need to address many key issues in their business.
