The Corinthia hotel in Lisbon has won the award in the 2013 Western Europe Region Energy project due to its fantastic efforts in energy saving. Each year this award is given to organizations that demonstrate outstanding results in this field. The annual nomination took place in Washington DC, where the hotel’s engineer took the award on behalf of the hotel.
The winner was selected by a group of professionals. The judges were amazed by the amount of work done. The hotel started implementing its revolutionary concept five years ago. At that time, almost no one believed it was possible. The Corinthia decided to reduce the footprint of CO2 and consume energy more efficiently. The result is truly stunning during first half of 2013, the hotel managed to decrease its energy consumption by 25%. That corresponds to 600.000 kWh and 290 tons of CO2.
In order to make the project come true, the hotel partnered with two powerful organizations - Galp Soluções de Energia and Instituto de Soldadura e Qualidade. They changed many aspects in the hotel, such as heat exchangers, water reservoirs and the energy system in general.
Corinthia is a luxury hotel brand founded by the Pisani family (Malta). The Corinthia hotel in Lisbon is a five star accommodation located in the center of the city close to main sightseeing objects, boutiques and gourmet restaurants.
