Even in a crowded hotel market there is space for new players. This time the newcomer is GuocoLeisure Ltd. The Singapore-listed company was registered in London last week. Currently, the hotelier operates 37 hotels in the UK, 22 of which are run in accordance with management agreements. All the hotels were previously run by Guoman Hotel Management. The company also owns a hotel in Singapore and two hotels in Malaysia.
The decision to form GuocoLeisure Hotels (GLH) appeared 12 months ago. It took almost a year to develop the operating model for the new organization. Within next 12 months GLH wants to open three new hotels. One of them, which is to open in July 2013, will become the company’s first luxury hotel under the new brand.
As the hotelier describes own company, they want to establish tighter connection with property owners and offer them truly beneficial business proposals that will help developing the business of both parties. Therefore, GLH offers more freedom for individual hotel owners and establishes good risk/reward balance. Many decisions can be made by hotel owners themselves or together with GHL. In order to get qualified staff for its hotels, GHL has launched a certified training academy in Cornell University and such organizations as Market Research Society and the Institute for Data Science. They will help training general managers and employees responsible for sales/marketing and operations of each hotel.
