Starwood Hotels & Resorts will work over its brand new solar power program, according to which the company’s hotels will use solar batteries to meet their energy needs. At the first stage of the program Starwood and NRG will equip three hotels with the newest renewable energy systems.
The internationally famous hotelier decided to start from the Westin St. John in the US Virgin Islands. Powerful solar array (1.3 megawatt) will be used to provide energy for three hotels. This clean and efficient way of producing energy will help to reduce the amount of air emissions and is generally good for the fragile ecosystem of the Caribbean region. If the system proves its efficiency, soon solar power stations will appear in other hotels by Starwood. For the hotelier solar power is also a great way to predict its electricity bills and costs, so Starwood will be less dependent on the fuel price fluctuations.
Starwood calls its decision to explore solar energy a part of its “30/20” goal. These digits mean that the company plans to reduce its energy consumption by 30%, and water consumption by 20%. The goal must be reached by 2020, and it concerns the global hotel network of the company. Starwood’s partner, NRG Solar, is a well-known company recognized as one of the largest solar power developers in the United States, and the leading company in offering solar power solutions for business.
