Sofitel Luxury Hotels has reported that the emblem for its new hotel Sofitel So Singapore will be designed by Karl Lagerfeld. The emblem will reflect the hotel’s style and will be present in a number of exclusive items for guests of the hotel.
Sofitel So is a relatively new hotel brand. It was launched in 2011 as a “design” brand and it is targeted at fashion and luxury conscious travellers. The French hospitality group Sofitel Luxury Hotels collaborates with best and well-known designers for each project. For example, the design of the Sofitel So hotel in Mauritius was developed by Kenzo Takada, while Sofitel So Bangkok was developed together with Christian Lacroix. The hotel in Singapore will be the third Sofitel So hotel. Next hotels under this brand are expected to open in Mumbai, Sydney, and Rio.
The new Sofitel So Singapore is located in a 19th century building with a beautiful façade in the neo classical style. Posh interiors of the accommodation remind of the Napoleonic Empire era, but it is mixed with modern classical design. In order to add national color, many aspects of the hotel’s design depict national flora and fauna of Singapore. The hotel has 134 guestrooms and is perfectly located in the central part of the business district of the city.
The design of the property was developed by Miaja Design Group. In order to show that Sofitel has French roots, the design team decided to use the Napoleonic bee emblem. The bee was stylized and used in various patterns throughout the hotel together with a redesigned image of orchid, a typical flower for the island located at equator. The emblem designed by Karl Lagerfeld is still a mystery and it will be shown closer to the middle of 2013, when the hotel will be opened.
