The Roxburghe hotel in Edinburgh is to be rebranded as a Crowne Plaza hotel. Currently, the hotel is operated by Macdonald Hotels & Resorts, but the owner of the property, Paragon Hotels, has decided to change the managing organization, and manage the hotel directly in accordance with a franchise agreement with InterContinental Group.
The 199 guestroom hotel will be renamed as Crowne Plaza Edinburgh The Roxburghe. Paragon has been the owner of the property for 15 years. In 2008 the company invested £7 million into the renovation of the hotel, and so its reception zone, lounge, and bedrooms were fully refurbished. According to the franchise agreement, the hotel’s meeting areas, its bar and restaurant, and its club bedrooms will be fully refurbished. InterContinental plans to add new lounge to the hotel. Moreover, the hotel’s website is also to be rebranded and revamped.
According to the general manager of the hotel, Marcello Ventisei, the change of the managing organization will have a positive impact on the hotel. The Crowne Plaza is a popular and well-known brand, and it fits well the Roxburghe located in the heart of the city. The hotel is likely to become very popular with international leisure guests and business travellers. Foreign visitors who arrive in the Scottish capital may prefer to stay in a hotel with the internationally acknowledged name. After rebranding, the hotel will have a four star rank.
This will be the first Crowne Plaza hotel in Edinburgh. Paragon Hotels has 10 hotels in the UK. Some of them work under the Classic Lodges brand, and the Savill Court Hotel & Spa is operated by Macdonald Hotels & Resorts.
