The newest report by STR Global shows that Europe and Asia Pacific are the regions with the biggest pipeline at the moment.
Currently there are 1,671 hotels with the total of 377,397 guestrooms under construction in the Asia Pacific region. The largest room growth is forecasted in India and the Philippines. If all rooms under construction open, the hotel market of these countries will increase almost by 30%. The pipeline of India estimates 54,738 guestrooms, and the pipeline of the Philippines is 11,369 guestrooms. Other countries, where the expected room growth will exceed 10% of the current number of guestrooms, are Indonesia (+23.4%, 27,684 guestrooms in pipeline), Vietnam (+23.2%, 10,338 guestrooms in pipeline), China (+14.5%, 214,971 guestrooms in pipeline), and Malaysia (+11.7%, 12,808 guestrooms in pipeline).
The pipeline of Europe estimates 876 hotels with 141,554 guestrooms. Surprisingly, the largest room growth is expected in Manchester, the UK. As many as 3,788 guestrooms are to open in this city. This is almost 29% of the current number of guestrooms in Manchester. Other cities with significant pipelines are Birmingham, the UK, (+ 19.4%, 2,117 guestrooms in pipeline), Edinburgh, the UK, (+14%, 1,547 guestrooms in pipeline), and London (+12.9%, 14,744 guestrooms in pipeline).
