Hilton has announced its new initiative, the main aim of which is to reduce the amount of carbon generated by events. The initiative will concern Hilton hotels in Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore, and will not cost a thing to visitors of the hotels. Hilton will purchase special carbon credits for 11 hotels in Southeast Asia. The money received from these credits will be used to fund ecologic projects in Cambodia and Borneo.
As Hilton Worldwide spokesman mentions, sustainability is one of key priorities for the company. They try to take actions to make their hotels more environment-friendly, and the new initiative concerning carbon emission is another proof of this. The programme is mostly targeted at business users, as they can now make their conferences, meetings and events more sustainable by offsetting carbon emissions and helping to restore energy projects of the region. Moreover, this will not require any additional spending from them.
The programme has already been taken to action. All events held in the Hilton hotels, such as meetings, weddings, conferences, and other occasions, will be equipped with ‘LightStay Meeting Calculator’. The calculator will measure emissions of carbon from electricity, food, water and food consumed. Then the amount of carbon will be offset to fund the Cambodia Cookstove Project and the Borneo Rainforest Rehabilitation. These days more organizations want to show they care about environment, and the new programme by Hilton may find many devotees.
The hotels participating in the programme are DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Hilton Petaling Jaya, Millennium Hilton hotel in Bangkok, Hilton hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort & Spa, Hilton hotel in Kuching, Conrad Centennial Singapore, Hilton Hua Hin Resort & Spa, Hilton hotel in Singapore, Conrad Bangkok, and Hilton Pattaya.
