Al Habtoor Group has announced the purchase of the 218-guestroom Le Meridien hotel in Budapest, Hungary. The previous owner of the hotel is Central European Estates, a subsidiary of Tel Aviv headquartered company Premium International Holdings.
The Dubai-headquartered company did not reveal the sum paid for the hotel, but this February the company’s chairman told Arabian Business they were in the middle of negotiations concerning the purchase of the hotel for US$78 million (€60 million).
Commenting the purchase, Khalaf Al Habtoor, the company’s chairman, told he was in love with Budapest. This is a city with unique atmosphere and great people. He is sure more people are to come to this place and so its popularity will only grow. The company is happy to contribute to the development of the local hotel industry and hopes to attract more guests.
Even though the owner has been changed, the company will still be operated by Starwood Hotels & Resorts. This is not the first collaboration between Al Habtoor and Starwood.
Le Meridien hotel is located in the center of the city, so it features simple access to all major cultural and historic attractions of the city. Shopping and business districts are also located nearby. The hotel is equipped with various business facilities including 8 meeting rooms and one grand room for up to 210 people, a spa center, a Jacuzzi, massage rooms, and an indoor pool. Dining facilities feature both Hungarian and French food, and sweet tooth visitors will enjoy a chocolate buffet.
