If you want to spend some memorable time in luxury resorts of Switzerland and even strong Swiss franc doesn’t change your plans, your rest can be ruined by such factor as the lack of snow.
Tour operators and hotel owners wait for the first snow impatiently, so that they will be able to attract ski tourists, who are not in a hurry with making reservations.
The situation is the same not only in Switzerland, but also in the Alps in general. Hoteliers wait for snow or at least for low temperature that allows turning artificial snow machines on. There has not yet been snowing in Crans Montana resort on the southwest. Davos accommodations already attract skiers, but only 7 out of 50 slopes work and this is the result of work of snow machines.
A massive anticyclone is guilty in such situation. There are no rains in the region as well. The latest rain in Davos was on October 16. Arosa, the resort oriented on family rest and located in the eastern part of Grisons, has no snow at all. This is an unusual situation as the level of snow here reaches 10 inches (approximately 25 cm) already in the middle of November.
The local meteorologists promise the situation will change very soon, but no one can be sure how much snow is going to fall in the region. Together with strong franc lack of snow can totally ruin the new tourist season.
Meanwhile the country tries to promote its ski resorts. Switzerland has already spent over 4 million of francs for advertising outside the country – in the EU, Great Britain and Russia. Hotels in Davos offer ski passes as a gift for each hotel reservation.
