Hotels in the UK – Forecasts for 2012

News Vast majority of hotels in London and in other cities of the UK believe in 2012 clients will change their attitude to the way they book hotels. This data has been published in the latest report prepared by HotStats Hotel Confidence Monitor. The study covers 521 hotels in the country.

More than 29% of hotels in London and 25.5% of provincial hotels believe in 2012 their services will be more often ordered online. Nowadays many hotels offer direct bookings through official websites and this trend is going to develop. More hotels will offer the ability to book rooms using Internet. At the same time, many travellers prefer to use third parties that take commissions for reservations. For example, Expedia or LastMinute are very popular among tourists and their popularity may only increase.

When it comes to performance, both hoteliers in the capital and in the province are sure 2012 will be a tough year for hotels in the UK. Almost a half of respondents think results will be worse comparing to the third quarter of this year. 38% of hoteliers are pessimistic about their performance. The expectations for Q4 2011 are a bit different for hotels in London and in the province. While London hoteliers wait for higher occupancy and better results, their provincial colleagues expect no improvements. These opinions are fully understandable as the usual level of gross operating profit for hotels in London in Q4 is 47.2%, while provincial hotels feature only 26.5%.

In 2012 London hotels expect to reach strong growth in RevPAR, while provincial hotels anticipate either no improvement or decrease in RevPAR. By the way, hotels in the capital call corporate travellers as their main source of income, while provincial accommodations count on different types of visitors.
