Mayfair Group has just finished the deal with the Oberoi Group and has bought a hotel in Orissa state in India. The 100 year old property is located in the city of Gopalpur near the sea. Mayfair is a local organization that is founded and owned by Dilip Ray, the former cabinet minister and a famous businessman.
This hotel was bought by Oberoi in 1947 from an Italian seller. Oberoi Palm Beach has quickly become one of the flagship properties of the hotelier. The property has been successful, but Oberoi’s management style implies operating big hotels. Even though this place is very memorable for the company, the hotel is small and the restrictions of Coastal Regulation Zone do not allow significant expansion. This was the main reason for sale. Together with this purchase the number of hotels in the portfolio of the Mayfair Group enumerates 8 properties. The company also runs hotels in Rourkela, Gangtok, Puri, Bhubaneswar, Darjeeling and Goa.
The new owner has said they will try to keep the atmosphere of the property and plan to spend around 25-30 crore for renovation and expansion, after which the hotel will add 15 more rooms and will have 35 guestrooms in total.
Gopalpur is a popular destination among Russian tourists on all periods of a year. Local visitors prefer to rest here on winters.
Among other future openings of Mayfair are hotels in Puri, Satpada, and Kolkata.
