In the beginning of the next year Jordan will become the location of the ambitious project’s building – a theme park and a resort dedicated to Star Trek. The total cost of the project estimates US$1.5 billion and first hotels may open already in 2014.
The complex is expected to consist of 4 hotels and a theme park located on the 184 acre (74 hectare) large area named Red Sea Astranium. The area is not far away from Aqaba city – the main port of Jordan. This resort in Jordan is designed by Rubicon Group Holding that works in conjunction with Paramount Recreation.
According to the information from The National (the Abu Dhabi newspaper), this project has several investors. Some of them are from the US, some are from the Middle East, but the primary one is Fund of Development of King Abdullah II. He is widely known as a huge fan of Star Trek series and has even appeared in a cameo role in the show Star Trek: Voyager (1995).
The investors hope the opening of such a large resort in Jordan may boost the tourism sector of the country. During first 6 months of 2011 Jordan was visited by 3.1 million of tourists – 14.2% less comparing to the same period of 2010.
According to Rubicon Group Holding, this resort will be profitable only in case it will attract 480 thousand visitors a year.
