Millennium & Copthorne, a UK hotelier, has announced the acquiring of a building in the center of Tokyo, which will be turned into a hotel. The opening of the new property is scheduled for 2014. By opening a hotel in Tokyo Millennium & Copthorne makes its debut on the Japanese market.
The company has also hired new CEO, Wong Hong Ren. The choice of the person is not random as currently the company pays much attention to development in Asia Pacific region. Millennium & Copthorne has hotels in Thailand, China, Indonesia, the Philippines, New Zealand, Singapore and Malaysia.
The new purchase of the hotelier is located in Ginza district of Japan’s capital. It will be turned into a 325-room hotel with a restaurant. The complete cost of the project estimates US$181 million. The chairman of the hotelier told on the press conference dedicated to the deal that he had been seeking an opportunity to open a hotel in Tokyo for almost 20 years.
