Travelodge, a chain of budget accommodations, has announced it will open 22 new hotels across the UK. The total cost of this project estimates £165 million.
For this purpose the hotelier has started the collaboration with the Arcadia Group, a famous clothing retailer. Both companies will work over the opening of the 96-key hotel in Edinburg. It will be located on Princess Street just above the Topshop store. The hotel may start operating in the middle of 2012 and will work under a lease agreement for 35 years (the cost of the agreement is £10 million). This property is going to be the 13th hotel in Edinburg by Travelodge. The total number of guestrooms by this hotelier in the capital of Scotland will reach 1,230.
Other hotels will add 2,198 guestrooms to the portfolio of the hotelier. Travelodge will open 5 hotels in London, and hotels in Glasgow and Gatwick airports. Other accommodations will be opened in Malvern, Eastleigh, Bedford, Loughborough, Woking, Darlington, Hemel Hempstead, Sittingbourne, Aylesbury, Kings Lynn, Newquay, and Altrincham.
Travelodge has already opened 18 hotels during 6 months of 2011. Currently the company is in the process of building of other 43 hotels, 21 of which are scheduled for opening already this year. All these hotels will increase the portfolio of the hotelier to 540 accommodations with the total number of guestrooms reaching 39,957. The global mission of the company is in having as much as 1,100 hotels in Europe by 2025 with over than 100,000 rooms.
According to Travelodge their main advantage is in the combination of brand and price. There are many budget hotels throughout Europe, but they offer poor quality service. By choosing Travelodge customers already know what they will get.
The opening of 22 hotels in the UK will also create 1,300 new jobs in the country.
