Clarion hotel in Stockholm becomes the world’s first accommodation that installs check in and out using NFC-enabled mobiles phones. By applying this system guests can also enter their rooms without ordinary keys.
The project is the result of collaboration of several companies - Nordic Choice Hotels, TeliaSonera, Assa Abloy, VingCard Elsafe, and Giesecke & Devrient. First companies incorporated 30 loyalty guests with mobile phones that have NFC system and asked them to use the new way of check in. Upon the arrival at a hotel, guests didn’t need to go to lobby to check in and moved directly to their rooms.
According to the results of the survey conducted by Assa Abloy, almost all participants told we would like to continue using this system. Over a half of respondents told NFC saved them around 10 minutes as they didn’t need to wait in a queue.
NFC system allows performing other actions as well. For example, visitors can pay for food, drink and various hotel services. During their stay participating guests of Clarion hotel in Stockholm used mobile phones to pay for spa and gym. Guests used it to look at maps and information about local bars and more.
