From now 8 luxurious hotels in France can call themselves ‘palaces’ and use this title in their names. This status has been granted to them by the French government. The aim of this is to distinguish these luxurious accommodations from other upscale lodgings.
The list of hotels that are now called palaces:
- Hôtel Plaza Athénée
- The Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme
- Le Meurice
- Cheval Blanc hotel in Courchevel
- Hôtel Le Bristol
- Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat hotel in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat
- Hotel du Palais in Biarritz
- Hotel Les Airelles in Courchevel
The title “palace” is given once in five years. This is a great honor for any hotel, so the jury takes into consideration numerous factors like historical significance of the building, location of the hotel, equipment and comfort of its rooms, service and staff, dining and health facilities, and much more. This year a famous architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte and a local author Gonzague Saint-Bris have been among the jury members.
As a rule the accommodations with the title palace attract more visitors, so we can expect improved bookings in the mentioned hotels. An interesting fact – Hotel de Crillon, which is considered one of the most beautiful hotels in France, hasn’t got this status.
