Yamu hotel-resort in Phuket is a luxury property that has greatly suffered due to the global financial crisis. This led to suspension of the project and its destiny was unclear until it was acquired by Hotel Properties Ltd. and KS group.
The Yamu project is a resort type hotel on a famous Phuket island, Thailand. The luxury hotel will consist of 22 villas and a hotel with 69 rooms. In the development of this resort participated such famous people as designer Philippe Starck and architect Jean-Michel Gathy. Originally the hotel in Phuket was scheduled for opening in 2012.
The Yamu hotel’s management rights were originally given to the London-based company Como Hotels and Resorts. This organization currently runs 8 hotels, the most famous of which is Metropolitan hotel in London. It is not clearly known whether Como Hotels will still be chosen as an operating company because the new owner, Hotel Properties, already has its own managing firm, HPL Hotels & Resorts, which currently operates 11 hotels.
Hotel Properties Ltd. is a Singapore-based company controlled by Ong Beng Seng. The company has ownership stakes in almost 40 hotels (more than 6,000 rooms in total). The second owner, KS Group, is a Thailand-native organization that controls several hotels, mostly under the Alila Hotels & Resorts brand.
