All hotels in Majorca will soon join brand new system of classification. Just as before, the rating will be measured in the quantity of stars. However, now crucial role will be devoted to the quality of the service provided by the hotel. Service will be rated according to Hotelstars Union standards. Old classification will be replaced by the new one that is currently yet in the process of development. The criteria, that will be used to determine hotels’ rating, include the quality of service, room equipment, quality of restaurants and bars on the territory of the hotel. According to the opinion of the government, such innovation must motivate hoteliers to invest more money into hotels and their equipment. The abovementioned innovations will be taken into action already in this year.
Balearic Islands are not the only region in Europe where new rules concerning the hotels’ rating are applied. In 2009 new unified hotel classification rules were submitted in 7 European countries. Currently the rules are followed by the hotels in Austria, Sweden, Germany and Czech Republic. The other 3 countries, the Netherlands, Hungary and Switzerland, will join in 2011. As soon as these rules are applied, over 17 thousands of hotels in Europe will be classified according to the same criteria. The complete catalogue of the criteria contains over 270 points that have been selected after the research made among travelers. In future 8 more countries will join Hotelstars Union.
