During the first six months of 2010, Estonia had 10% more tourists than during the same period a year earlier. Tallinn remains Estonia's most visited city: during the above mentioned period it had 554 700 tourists, 88% of whom were residents of foreign countries. Total increase in tourist flow in Tallinn reached 15 % and revenues of the city's hotel sector increased by 6%.
According novosti.err.ee., the number of both foreign (+16%) and Estonian (+7%) travelers increased compared with the first half of 2009. Most foreign tourists (256,800 people) arrived in Tallinn from Finland and Russia. However, while the number of Finnish tourists has increased by only 16% for six months, the number of Russians in Tallinn has increased by 47%, reaching 48 200 people.
There are numerous guests from Sweden (25 000 tourists), though they gradually lose interest in the capital of Estonia (-1%). Markedly decreased the number of tourists from Norway (-11%). But the German, Latvian and British travelers are increasingly choosing holidays in Tallinn. Growth of tourist flow was +17%, +10% and +6% respectively.
Specialists from the Department of Business Development pointed out that the figures for the current year exceed not only prior one, but also 2008. Such growth in Tallinn's popularity was caused by the attractive prices offered by its hotels. Thus, the price for a double hotel room in Tallinn starts from 28 euros, which is almost a record price for a European capital.
