Dorchester Collection opens first "eco-hotel" in UK

Coworth Park is a new five star country house hotel which belongs to the Dorchester Collection and  is located in Ascot, Berkshire. This luxury hotel promises to be the most environmentally-friendly hotel in the UK through the incorporation of renewable technologies that consume less energy.

Coworth Park offers 70 rooms (30 in main building and 40 in brick houses, cottages), an underground spa, large horse stable, two fields for playing polo and two restaurants.

The hotel aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by at least 50% due to a completely new approach to the choice of heating and cooling systems, as well as lighting solutions. The key elements are:

Carbon-neutral fuel.

Coworth Park will become the first hotel in the UK, which will be fuelled by burning willow.

Energy Center.

The hotel will be equipped with its own Energy Center, providing heating, cooling and hot water supply in the main building, spa and cottages. The Center will use renewable resources, featuring low-power consumption.

Heating plant using vegetable-based fuel.

Compared to conventional heating plant, a heating plant using vegetable-based fuel will significantly reduce carbon emissions into the atmosphere.

Heat Pump.

It will transfer warm air from one room to another and will improve the whole system.

Among other novelties are:

  • Eco Spa

The spa, located under the ground, will have 10 treatment rooms, fitness center and a crystal clear indoor pool. The spa center will have a unique  “living roof” with plants and herbs, which will be used by spa therapists.

  • Solar Heating

In order to cope with the loss of heat and provide heating of the main building, as well as brick houses and stables, the solar panels will be installed on the roof.

  • Water reuse

All rainwater will be collected in a special lake and then reused for irrigation of polo fields and willow plantations.

  • Garden

Coworth Park will have its own garden, which will provide clean vegetables for two restaurants. The sunken garden (XVIII century) will be renovated  and restored to its original beauty.

The hotel guests will enjoy an excellent service given by the hotel staff while being assured that they help save the planet clean.

Opening of  Coworth Park is planned for September 2010.
