The company has announced the intention to double its Thailand hotel's portfolio over the span of five years. According to Jan Smits, managing director of IHG Asia Australia, the company has been keeping track of international and local business tendencies and opportunities. This has helped them outline a clear and concise expansion plan for Thailand. The company has a regional office in Bangkok and has signed agreements to launch Holiday Inn Express and Hotel Indigo brands in Southeast Asia. The office is to become the company's headquarters to manage its work in Thailand, Indochina and the Maldives.
It is noteworthy that the IHG has ventured upon the project in the times of social and political turmoil in Thailand. The company had to close two of its hotels in Bangkok's downtown area for more than a month. However, Jan Smits is optimistic about the company's future in Thailand, thanks to the government's loyalty and efforts to boost local tourist business and speed up recovery.
